Ocean Murals In London

It was August 6th, 2013 when I arrived in London, Ontario to help Artfusion London with an amazing vision their founder Ryan Mahy envisioned. It was on a wall near his home that is approximately 81ft in height and 160ft in length. This space was and now is the home to the "Stephen Watson Memorial Mural #SWMM". This mural will replicate the last painting Stephen Watson completed before he passed August 29th, 2011 called "Octopus Garden 2".

That day I arrived I was given the job to outline as much of the mural as I could in the time I had. This ended up being the largest "FREE=HAND" art I have ever accomplished. At first it felt overwhelming just looking at this enormous canvas in front of me. Then after Ryan broke it down for me on how to accomplish the freehand work with a spray paint can I was hooked!

I was there for two days and by the time I left on August 7th other artists and volunteers were already rolling canned paint into the lines I sprayed. By the time I was complete this day I had finished most of the giant octopus' body and the head was formed. By the time paint was being put into it the mural was starting to be visualized by all passerby.

I found myself continuing to travel from Toronto to London on every day I had off to help the other artists to get this mural completed by August 30th only 24 days total. Ryan Mahy was an inspiration having seen him as the visionary and backbone of the mural with his daily efforts and most over nighters!

If you like or even love this incredible art mural work and would be interested in helping finish the back of the building with another one of Stephen Watson's paintings called "Playtime" then go to Artfusion's Indiegogo Fundraiser :)

I compiled some photos and videos of the work and artists that were a part of such a beautiful task from the moments I was in attendance.

Check the video out:

Then Ryan Mahy came to me on the second day of the Block Party on August 30th, 2013 and asked me if I would like a wall space to create a mural of my own! This was a fabulous moment of my life that was like setting me free from the nest! The wall space was completely in public view and was approximately 8ft in height and 22ft in length. Check out the video I created of my first ever mural being completed.

If you would like to see these murals then go to downtown London, Ontario, Canada and the parking lot they are a part of is roughly between 197 - 199 Dundas Street.

If you do see them then Snap a photo and on Twitter use @ArtistforOcean and on Instagram use @ArtistfortheOcean to tag me!

Animals Asia Founder Jill Robinson in Toronto

I rushed after work to get over to this unique visit from a lady who has dedicated her last 18 years to help Moon Bears in China and recently Vietnam as well. Jill Robinson the founder of Animals Asia joined us in the Lula Lounge of Toronto to speak about the lives of these gorgeous bears in what they call "Bear Farms".

Within these farms these bears are caged so tightly they cannot move around much and the floor is bars which makes their feet deform over the many and some decades of time being caged. The farmers milk them for their bile to use in ancient chinese medicine. This leaves the wound open and always infected that in time kills these animals but sadly not soon enough since they have to be tortured for years if not decades.

Jo-Anne McArthur was also there being the amazing photographer as well as she had some gorgeous Moon Bear photos up for sale with all proceeds going to Animals Asia.

Please watch the whole talk Jill Robinson gave us in four parts.

Ric O'Barry Gets ECO HERO Award

I was honoured to meet Ric O'Barry for the fourth time this year being the third Country too! We have been talking since the beginning of 2010 and met for the first time this past January when I was in Japan, then again in Miami at the Seaquarium for a protest, and finally twice in Canada for two separate awards!

This award was for being an ECO HERO! Please watch the 9min award ceremony with Ric Speaking. At the end he plugs that he normally comes to Canada to protest Marineland and further states not to buy a ticket to any dolphin shows. Period.

Hanging out at the After Party!

Shark Ban In Toronto = Unanimous Vote

Today in Toronto the meeting of the Licensing and Standards Committee voted to refer the item to the Executive Director of the Municipal Licensing and Standards Committee to report back on a bylaw to ban the possession, sale and consumption of shark fin products. All the shark advocates of "Fin Free" and others joined together to speak on behalf of the sharks today! Giving the sharks a voice to save the species from this horrific slaughter worldwide for only their fins.

Well today the speakers on the opposition side and defence for the sharks spoke and everyone waited to hear the vote!

The VOTE was Unanimous to take it to the licensing and standards committee in November! Only half of the speakers were able to testify which gives me a positive feeling that this is being heard by people who are concerned with the shark species and the ocean/planet as well!

This is a critical first step in getting a ban in Canada's largest municipality and we are optimistic that the City staff will come up with a strong bylaw that will protect sharks and set a strong precedent for other municipalities.

You can view the source here:

Stay Tuned for more in November when Toronto does our sharks Proud!

Underground News on the AMAZON

Protect The Amazon - Brazil (August 20th) & International Solidarity (August 22nd)

This past weekend so many cities/countries from around the world came together in solidarity to be as one with the Indigenous people, animals, plants of the Amazon!

The Amazon is in dire straits! The Forest Code has been altered after 46 years of protecting the Amazon. Its Criminal to know that the Forest Code was altered to allow a large dam called the Belo Monte to be built and cause so much destruction. It will be the 3rd largest dam in the world and Belo Monte means Beautiful Mountain.

Well this Beautiful Mountain is going to Flood the Beautiful Amazon - 60% of the Amazon is planned to be flooded by this dam. In order to feed this dam they have to construct 68 other dams that will cut off the Xingu River at the point its called "The Big Bend". Within the Big Bend on the Xingu River lives approximately 50,000 indigenous people and over 100,000 different animals and plant species. The river is transportation, food, and home to these people, animals, and a very unique biodiversity that we still do not fully understand.

People have already been killed for this Belo Monte construction plan and this is why we must stand with the Brazilian Indigenous people before the lungs of the earth is drowned by its own rivers of life.

Make your say now!

IFAW: Not With My Tax Money!

Well every year starting in March the Canadian government's propaghandi comes out and brainwashes the canadian citizens about the seal hunt of gray seals and harp seals. To people who do not support this seal hunt consider it a Seal Slaughter! Back in the 90's this slaughter was shut down by animal rights activists and then after the pressure softened the government geared it back into operation. They found a market for the fur and away they went to the killing ice flows of the eastern coastline of Canada. After this seals were being killed by the thousands. By 2009 the Canadian government was up to about 300, 000 seals slated to be skinned on the ice leaving their bodies scattered in red splatter marks over the white snow. Then the European Union banned all seal products that really pissed off the Harper government and forced them to use our tax money for this slaughter and now to fight the European Union which they did not win. 2011 they have put out a qouta of 60,000 seals to be slaughtered.

March 12th - International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) - hit the streets of Toronto at the Dundas Square downtown. They brought their enormous seal mascot for this event and a ton of literature. People held signs and got petitions signed. Scarfs and buttons were handed out and a ton of conversation buzzed around the whole event from support to nonsupport. Overall majority does not care for their money to support this slaughter and want it to end.

March 21st - IFAW supporters went out on the streets of Toronto in the College and University street area near the Toronto University. A lot of students passing by with the subway entrances nearby and some were taking the information while others ignored and a couple actually fought for it. One student says "they do it becuase their overpopulated and if we didn't kill them there would be too many". While the reply was "How about the ice flows not forming in the last couple of years not allowing them to have their babies to populate?" and there was no reply.

When the matter hits home it only makes more disgruntled conversations to amazing support and awakening at times. No matter what the reactions are its best to let people know the facts and how the government covers it up and uses tax money. A police officer showed up on the scene and stated "I know all about the seal hunt and I think the tax money can be better used to help create yearly jobs instead of a few hundred people in a short time."

I myself like to approach each matter differently depending on who I speak with and one I liked today was Ìf you don`t like the Harper government then boycott the Seal Slaughter and piss them off!` Some people would smirk, some would ignore me and others came up and asked why. Each issue and each person thinks and reacts differently - we have to find what makes them tick and share them the information in a manner that affects their thoughts alone.

Just on another quick note seals are being slaughtered in Nambia as well! This matter needs to stop and you can also check it out here: https://sites.google.com/site/thesealsofnam/
