Stephen Watson Remembered Forever

"Good things come in three's they always say!"

#TheAgeofProtection #OPSID #Marineland #SWMM #Artfustion #LndOnt #SeaShepherd

Stephen Watson, brother of the founder of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and an incredible Ocean Artist and Animal Loving Vegan left us August 29, 2012. Since then a few things have come alive in memory of him. The two memorials and one dedication are from Marineland Animal Defense, Artfusion, & Artist for the Ocean. From helping free captive marine animals to viewing such a historic artist's moment on a wall to also bringing awareness through an ocean art book filled with visual voices of marine life - Stephen would definitely be smiling.

Stephen's latest art pieces will be on showcase at "The Arts Project" in London with Artist for the Ocean's artwork combining two ocean art styles with the same direction - to end the killing.

Event Link: Ocean Fusion Art Show

Where: "The Arts Project" 203 Dundas Street, London, Ontario

When: July 8th - 20th

Reception: Friday July 12th  6pm - 9pm

MEMORIAL # 1

The first one that was brought public on April 27th was by Marineland Animal Defense ( #OPSID & #Marineland ). This was the announcement of the STEPHEN WATSON MEMORIAL FUND.

"The Stephen Watson Memorial Fund is a public savings account which will grow - as the pressure from this campaign continues to grow. The funds in that account will never be released unless Marineland or a future buyer agree to end captive breeding programs, end importation of new animals and agree to transition animals out of the facility. The funds will be used for transportation and care only - getting animals out of the park and set up in their new non-profit, rehab or sanctuary homes - and will never be used to pay the park for the animals. If Marineland ever does transition and instead sends their animals to another captive for profit park - then this fund transfers to another grassroots pressure campaign at a marine park and continues with the same purpose and the same funds." ~Marineland Animal Defense

Below is a statement from Stephen’s wife, Renée Watson, on the fund.

Stephen was a man who believed in honour, integrity and living life authentically. He believed that all life had value and basic inherent rights, that being the right to live freely without imposition, oppression or fear. Although he felt this way for all sentient beings, he focused most of his energies towards increasing awareness of the plight of the oceans and the creatures living within.

Stephen was intimately connected to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society with his brother being Captain Paul Watson founder and director of this organization. Stephen’s gift as an artist was the way in which he could best support his brother’s organization, which he believed in so very much, and to bring attention to the loss and depletion of our oceans. He donated numerous art pieces to raise funds for organizations that focused their energies on keeping sea life safe and protected, in their natural environment.

The biggest affront to the largest of these ocean dwelling animals is the senseless slaughter, and perhaps worse, the capture and imprisonment of these majestic beings. MAD is a grassroots organization Stephen would be proud to be a part of. It would have given him great joy to see the end to theme parks that hold animals imprisoned, forced to entertain masses of humanity. Until that is a reality, naming this trust fund after him both honours him and keeps his presence in the struggle to shut down marine theme parks forever.

Oceans and the beings that live beneath the surface must be protected and allowed to replenish itself. For as Captain Paul would say, “if the oceans die, we die.”

Thank you
Sincerely Renée Watson.

You can help this fund build and be supportive to the animals trapped in captivity at Marineland Canada by donating to this fund at demonstrations, by pick up or drop off in the Niagara Region, or online via paypal or email money transfer to marinelandanimaldefense@gmail.com with the note “Stephen Watson Memorial Fund.”

MEMORIAL #2

With the friendship Stephen made with a local active event & gallery called "ARTFUSION" ( #SWMM #Artfusion #LndOnt )came an amazing project. Announced just days ago at the end of May they have scored an amazing wall in downtown London-Ontario where they will be combining donated paints and time from people to create a massive mural. Not just any mural though! This mural will be the exact painting that Stephen Watson completed prior to his passing.

WHO: Artfusion Gallery

WHAT: Painting London’s largest mural, depicting the last piece of the late Artfusion artist and ocean activist, Stephen Watson.

WHEN: August 2013, with launch event (Artfusion Fest 3) on August 30-31, 2013

WHERE: 197-199 Dundas Street in London, Ontario, Canada

WHY: The mural is in memorial of late artist Stephen Watson, who was passionate about the preservation of the world’s oceans. Tragically, Watson was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in August 2012; his last piece, entitled Octopus’ Garden 2, is depicted on the mural. Through the preservation of the artist’s memory through art, Artfusion will achieve their mandate of transforming urban space for the purpose of economic prosperity within the creative cultural sector.

HOW: Artfusion will raise the funds necessary to complete the memorial mural and utilize our extensive networking of artists to complete the artist’s final piece to scale, making this project London’s largest mural.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Businesses have the opportunity to become an immortalized piece of history by financially supporting the Stephen Watson Memorial Mural. You can help to support Artfusion in the following ways:
  • Corporate Sponsorship
  • In-Kind Donation of supplies, goods, or services
  •  Donating a portion of retail proceeds to the project

Dedication #3

A new Ocean Art Book built to create a further Visual Voice for the ocean has been dedicated in memory of Stephen Watson. The book is called "21st Century - The Age of Protection" ( #TheAgeofProtection )author Bob Timmons "Artist for the Ocean" has known Stephen for the last 4 years of his life while it took 6 years to write, paint, and prepare this book. Stephen was amongst this Book's journey from the start and it was only natural to place his name into the book as a memorial of such a great spirit and ocean artist he respected greatly.

This book has just started its own Journey in Hong Kong, China at an Ocean Fundraiser and this is one major form of what it was meant to be a part of - creating awareness! The book had an Indiegogo campaign that just ended yesterday to help make paperback books and have them donated into Large Public Schools & Librairies around the world.
The Ebook will be on display in Hong Kong - China for the month of June collecting donations for the Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project. On June 29th this Ebook will be in Melbourne-Australia helping with the event "Dolphin Awareness Campaign" at the FED Square where 50% will go to help the organizers and 50% will go to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Australia whale campaign. The help is endless and fundraising is very important to most grassroots and charitable organization because sometimes donations is all they get to move forward with positive action.

Stephen Watson has created such energy and passion from who he was when he was alive and now we have all been honoured to continue this flow while he is still around us in an energy form. So there are three amazing ways to keep Stephen's name alive from his Life's Journey of passion through art and his ethical choices for freedom of all life! You now have the choice to help where ever you would like to in Stephen's name.

"HUNTER to the OCEAN" Fundraiser SUCCESS

A fundraiser I started over a month ago lasted only 7 days when 40 people came from all over the world to help make one young man's dream come true!

In 7 days we raised $1027USD to help create a way for Hunter Shaffer, 14 years old and in a wheelchair all of his life, make it to the ocean. Hunter fights for the ocean & animals daily online and through his personal life working at a local conservation area. Hunter has had over 400 bones break in his 14 years of life and knows first hand what pain is all about so he now lives a vegan lifestyle and has taken on a voice for the voiceless.

Hunter inspired me to create this fundraiser and I am so happy to say "It was a SUCCESS!" Hunter and his family took this opportunity as a family road trip to Jupiter, Florida. Jimi B. Long set up the event at the Florida destination and has only spoke to Hunter over the internet for months. So they too were able to meet for the first time and Jimi is in a wheelchair as well and knew first hand how he could help make this day something to be remembered for the rest of Hunter's life! Now we have photos to share!

This is the status that Hunter put out only 11 hours ago from his resort in Florida:

"Snorkeling at coral cove was great, and my first time in the open ocean! Was also the first time I had seen a fish in the wild while I was in the water. My biggest thanks to Danny, Michael Worden, Jimi B. Long, Erik Brush, Susan Mabe, Jim Shaffer, and most of all Bob Timmons for helping me to get to Florida in the first place! A big thanks as well to Amber Foster for watching the pets back at home so I could come here!

I am now VERY comfortable with the ocean, and snorkeled again today at a different location. Snorkeled 300FT out right over a coral reef and saw Sea Urchins, Crabs, Puffer fish, Appears to be Bermuda Chub, a large Yellow Fish that I was unable to identify *Thought it was a Trumpetfish, but looks nothing alike!*

Erik, Jimi and I also went to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, we saw a variety of rescued turtles and sat for a 30 minute educational interactive course about sea turtles. *This was also the spot where I beat Jimi in 2 wheelchair races, no need to brag about that, videos will come soon! ;)*

All in all, I could not have asked for a better time in Florida and saw a variety of life! A huge thank you to ALL who donated to the Hunter To The ocean campaign! Without your help, I would not have been NEAR the ocean, let alone 100 meters out over a reef! Considering going out early in the morning tomorrow to swim with the Bull Sharks when they migrate into the shallows to feed as the sun rises. Thank you, everyone!" ~ Hunter Shaffer

Michael Worden
It was a pleasure! So proud of Hunter, he did a great job in the water this morning!

Jimi B. Long Meeting Hunter and his wonderful family was without a doubt, one of the highlights of my life!! What a great bunch of people, to spend an awesome day with! Thank you to everyone who showed up to help!! I had a BLAST!!! Next time, I'll know better than to challenge Hunter to a wheelchair drag race.. The little bugger blew my doors off and left me in the dust...TWICE!!!!!

To see what I "FELT" only weeks ago, go from a thought, to a reaction, to networking, to a JOURNEY for a young man and his family! People globally were affected by his compassion to join in and create an Incredible Story for him and all of us! Hunter keeping on Rocking the Free-World for the Animals! I think you know now that we ALL LOVE YOU Bud!

Wild Time Radio Interview Speaking On My Journey For All Animals

I had the pleasure to speak to Thomas Janak of Wild Time Radio.

Thomas was able to speak to myself about many things regarding the ocean from my view point and action. I was able to speak on my ocean art to my ocean jewelry line. The way I use my paintbrush as a weapon for the ocean itself. However it doesn't just stop at my art but it goes to my activism within Toronto and on land in Japan - Taiji for that matter.

I was able to speak about when I started my journey for the animals to what I am currently apart of or at least I am helping with. I spoke about Animal Rights Kollective, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Toronto Pig Save, Cove Guardians, Sharkwater, United Conservationists, and Herbivores - Animal Frequency.

Hope you will enjoy the interview of my Journey that you can find here:

Today Brantford Makes History For Sharks

If you have been following the shark world the last couple of years there has been huge positive changes. People are waking up and I do not mean simply individuals but cities, states, and countries. Today marks a great day for Canadian History when a small city of 90,000 people becomes the first city to Ban Shark Fin Products.

I have organized a Support The Ban Rally in Brantford today at 4:45pm till about 5:45pm when we will enter the Council Chambers to wait for the Vote To Make it a By-Law Ordinance. This day is extremely important and the ball will start when the vote passes!

You can watch LIVE at 6pm here:
http://www.brantford.ca/govt/council/Pages/LiveMeetingCoverage.aspx

The event information is here:
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=226282937386464

I will keep you updated from my twitter account:
http://twitter.com/activistartist

Also Phil Gillies a member of Wildaid and Dave Neuman a former mayor of Brantford are the two men that got the bill pushed for vote and will be in attendance today to speak to us.

On another note California yesterday passed the vote to ban shark fin products in the assembly so the next step is to the senate to be voted on to pass a state law.

Cove Guardian's Speak In Seattle

Over this past weekend I was able to attend a fantastic fundraiser!
The Sea Shepherd Seattle Chapter was launched and had a ton of amazing people who traveled from all over North America. I came from Toronto and was put up with many others at the West's Home. Rob Lorkiewicz came from Virginia Beach - Virginia, Tim Quick flew in from Philadelphia, and Tarah Millen, Ryan Hughes, Marley, Carissa, and Adrienne all drove over the border which had a story in itself.

The joke of the weekend and the night was about the "Canadians" that couldn't speak to the masses. This was because the truck load was stopped at the border and then searched. Within the search they found a Paul Watson book "Earth Force" which is about protecting the planet. Well the guard opened up the book randomly and found the words "Guerilla Tactics" and instantly claimed them to be terrorists. The story for them began at that moment when their rights were being removed and they weren't allowed to even call the Canadian Embassy. After having a criminal profile done they were finally released to head back to Canada. With much motivation to get over the border they decided to go over at a different location after getting proper requested information and dropping the "Earth Force" book into a church book drop-off box. They arrived at the new border crossing point and after more investigation and phone calls they were finally allowed over the border.

The night was incredible and below are individual speaker's talking to the full house.

Mass Gathering Against Captivity - Miami or Bust

When I see the animal protest back in the 70's its filled with hundreds of passionate people to force an end to animal suffering. People back then did not have a television in every room, a computer, more than one car if at all, cell phones, video games, DvD's, etc. These people were more intune to what was happening because there was no distraction of entertainment like there is today!

Today almost every living human in the wealthy countries has a cell phone or two. Their children have cell phones at the age of 7 years old in some households. Technology has taken over our minds and we forget about what is around us outside. When I was younger we were kicked outside from the morning until the evening. Children today sit in their homes and play video games, hang out on the internet keeping in touch with their movie stars, and all the while there is suffering going on by big corporations on millions of living beings that make up this world "Planet Earth". Our planet has become a factory itself by millions of corporations that feed on it only to grow stronger a few very large corporations. It seems that the top few that control are banks, pharmaceuticals, monsantos (food control), and oil all play the world with strings and as long as we do not come together in a mass and fight they get stronger and this planet gets weaker. Its time to mass together, stand up and be heard!

Our protesting has been weak from the 70's to now - 40 years later. I thought it should have gotten stronger to keep what they won back then which is now being taken away by governments. Last year the IWC was looking at allowing 10,000 whales to be killed. George Bush was deregulating environmental protection on his last month of power. All of these took years of pressure from passionate people who new the importance of what a living being from an animal, human to a tree or body of water. It probably took 20 years to gain most of these protecting laws for people, animals, and the environment but when we relax thinking its done allows them to come back! Just like the Canadian Seal Hunt that once was finished and then came back even stronger when people weren`t looking. It happens and it has to end!

The population today has increased massively while the trees, wild animals, and rivers have decreased substantially. This offset of balance of life has brought us to so many more issues like the ocean having a dated death sentence of 2048, ice caps melting, polluted fresh and salt water, billions of starving people while we farm millions of animals abnormal to a way of their natural lives. All the while other countries are obese and the household waste is accumulating eroneously! People would take all of this as separate issues but I don`t! I learn about every angle I can from conspiracy to facts regarding past, present and future plans of action with this world. From this information I can make a more intelligent thought and plan of action.

I believe the time is Now! Everyday we pass by is another day lost to a strong force coming together! I'm speaking about our 2011 International Grassroots Action Plan! No names, no organizations, no labeling! Just passionate people coming together to demand a change to stop this Environmental destruction, pollution of water-land-air, to stop development into the wilderness - land and sea, and to take back control! Its like we have been asleep on the wheel for the last 40 years as a mass movement. If we do not start now then when!

We have become experiments on this planet with the drugs they pump into animals, drinking water, soil, etc. The banks loan out money for technology to take or make more from the open ocean to the farms of millions`s of animals. Then the pharmaceutical companies come in with their drugs to make the animal abnormally grow large which then needs drugs to stop any sickness or abnormal infections that incurrs. This is the puppet master forcing us to play the game and it has to end with all of us coming together. From one issue to the next we must stand in a mass gathering! We must be present in numbers with our demands for the world to see! We must be noticed from here on out!

So I want everyone to join me in Miami regarding Captivity! This is a worldwide issue and needs to end now! I have chosen Miami since Shelby Proie has brought the lonely female orca named Lolita to international attention. Shelbys efforts have been amazing the last couple of years and I believe Lolita is an Icon of what Captivity can do to an animal. We need people to come from anywhere and everywhere! Bring their flags of the state they live in; and the country their from to show we are much larger than Miami - we are the world!

I am looking for a Mass Gathering in Miami however this world is huge and International attention is needed! So please share this Event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=160505420671014 and lets start the foundation of passionate strength to tackle the horrors together as an International Grassroots Action! Lets use that Internet that takes people to another world of games to actually use it to make us 100 times stronger and more powerful than the people in the 70s.! We have the technology to be powerful! Are you with me to take back this planet starting with Lolita and Captivity!

`9 Days in Taiji` Posters

Its amazing how one thing leads to another and I am the first to tell anyone and everyone to take ALL OPPORTUNITIES - They will lead to more and take them too!

My 9 days in Taiji were life changing from the loss of almost 90 Dolphins of 4 species to the meeting of other passionate people that were able to make it to ground zero and share their energy and support for the dolphins. The stories I learned from each of the people I met are their own amazing stories that I can say are being talked about, shared, and respected from others within their own communities and myself.

I would like to share you with some amazing work done by three artists. One would be myself but not my art but my physical passion as an activist to use my fearless skill to create a mind over matter situation and endure the frigid cold for 30 minutes while it will never compare to the suffering and loss of life from the dolphins. The second artist would be Libby Katsinis - the Cove Guardian campaign leader who`s background is photography and she showed it very well with sharing her skill for these art pieces below. The third but not least of any sort is the artist who finalized the connection to us all and that is Pete Mander who is also an amazing artist in many ways from expensive collector costumes of the Predator to a visual artist.

I always say good things come in threes because I`m an optomistic person filled with positive energy and we connected in our own way to create a few posters that we hope to put out a great message - `PROTECT THE DOLPHINS`. These words were discussed to me by Ric O`Barry who knows how to do such that - Protect the Dolphins. So actually that would make 4 people and actually I`m sure there is more and that is what  positive energy does when emitted. The actions in a positive manner will extinguish the negative actions of any being that chooses to make such actions.

Please view the poster and share if you like - they will be up for sale soon to raise money for either the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society`s Cove Guardian action or Save Japan Dolphins. It will be the choice of the buyer where their money goes and both are for the dolphins.

So if you`re interested now then email me at timmons.animal.artist@gmail.com and tell me which one since there is 3 posted I will number them 1, 2, 3.
